Motorcycle Reviews: 2010 Streetfighter Shootout: Kawasaki Z1000 vs. Triumph Speed Triple

Motorcycle Reviews: 2010 Streetfighter Shootout: Kawasaki Z1000 vs. Triumph Speed Triple Full review: tinyurl.com In case you havent noticed, were big fans of naked sportbikes. Fast enough to thrill yet plenty accommodating for daily use, their do-it-all nature is highly appealing to us. Not only did the versatile and riotously fun Triumph Street Triple R take the Motorcycle of the Year award in our Best of 2009 article, weve also given plenty of ink to naked bikes in comparison tests. Which brings us to Kawasakis new Z1000 sports roadster. American riders have been reluctant to buy naked bikes such as this, but Kawasaki believes it has a winner on its hand with its ground-up redo of the streetfighting Z1K. We became believers, too, after testing the Zee during its December press launch. It is a huge advancement over the previous generation Z1000, offering more grunt, sure-footed handling and less vibration. It proved to be so competent that we decided to see how it would fare against the endlessly appealing Triumph Speed Triple, a true icon of the genre that has been around since 1994.

2008 Yamaha R6 Motorcycle Review - First Ride - Part 1 Read the full motorcycle review at Motorcycle.com. www.motorcycle.com Yamaha's YZF-R6 has been a major player in the middleweight sportbike wars ever since it debuted in 1999. In this mid-cycle revision for 2008, the tweaked R6 has a bolstered midrange punch and even better handling dynamics in the face of new-for-2007 challengers from Honda and Kawasaki, plus a revised GSX-R600 from Suzuki for '08.

  1. @DarkPops666 Well I've ridden both, and they are both awesome. The trump feels nothing like a tractor - it has a ripping engine, the handling is incredibly light, the brakes are awesome. It's a sweet package.

The z1000 is nice, but you have to wring it to get at the power.

Still probably going to get a z1000 though, because I prefer the futuristic styling to the bug eyed headlights.

  2. @lgarvey there is a history of motorcycle and it can be an answer, what else?

  3. @DarkPops666 duh - if you'd actually ridden a speed triple you wouldn't be making that comment

  4. Z1000 or Speed Triple? Thats easy. KTM 990 Super Duke. Brembo brakes, WP suspension, 1000cc V-twin, 5 gallon gas tank and 450 lbs wet. Love mine :)

Honestly though you just can't go wrong with a street fighter. Cruisers can only dream of having the power and handling of a street fighter while your buddies on their super sports will want to stop every 30 minutes and pretend to get fuel while they stretch lol love the Z1000 and Speed Triple too.

  10. The triumph a better street bike than the z1000. like the guy said you got to ring the z1000 neck to get at the power. ( which causes a lot of attention) where as the speed triple the power is right there off the bottom just twist the throttle and go.
I think the z1000 looks way better than triumph cause the speed triple design is getting old.

  12. ya but you have to ring the kawasaki's neck to get at the power where as the triumph as it right of the bat without all the ruckus,

  13. @muddydodge2500 its suppose to do that, thats its running lights. the other light comes on when you turn them on. all dual lights sport bikes do that

  18. Lol not hard to guess wat bike u got there :) The Z-1000 isnt Naked? What? The best bike to compare the z-100 to is the S3, and u dont have to defend ur own S3, we all know theyr both nice bikes ;-)

A Z1000 makes about 138 at the crank and 123 at the rear wheel. Makes over 80 ft lbs at the crank and runs in the lower 10's in the 1/4. A ZX6R makes 128 at the crank which puts it at 112 or so at the rear wheel. Different kind of power. The 1000 will loft the front wheel in the 1st 3 gears without the clutch. Better for the street. On the track where you need to be in the top part of the powerband then the 600 comes into its element.

  21. I sell both and ride the Triumph. Nice job on the new Z1000, better than ever but a f4-cylinder is boring as hell.

  22. @SillieWous engine size has nothing to do with the class of a vehicle

  23. @PRINCEofPECICA i hope you know r6 is 600cc and 1198 1198cc so that's like comapring two completely different things...

    ReplyDelete
  24. @bubbyj I mean the 430 is in close competition with the new GT-R.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @PRINCEofPECICA No no no, 458 Italia. Skyline is actually in good competition with the new GT-R. But its an unfair comparison anyway, considering these two different bikes are in COMPLETELY different classes.

  27. @sofargone561 if you wanna begin riding on a big bike, maybe go with a 650cc. Though it's 50 more cc than a 600, it's usually a twin cylinder and wouldnt accelerate as fast (though still under 4sec to 60mph), and it has great low end torque. after you get a hang of riding you can move up to a 600/1000cc. though i know some guys that went straight to 600cc so it's up to you!

  28. @sof1map come on man, r6 is 600cc, r1 is 1000 cc)))))
